2018 NDNU STARTALK Summer Institute Volunteer Student Program
The NDNU STARTALK summer institute is a federally-funded professional development program for Chinese language teachers and also serves as an enrichment experience for Mandarin learners. The Volunteer Student Program is designed to provide culture based learning to middle and high school students who may or may not have much learning experience in Mandarin Chinese and to provide practicum opportunity for the teacher trainees.
This year, volunteer student program will be offered from June 25 to June 28 at Notre Dame de Namur University , 1500 Ralston Avenue, Belmont, CA 94002. This is a completely free of charge opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a 4 half-day language and culture study program. Volunteer students will receive Mandarin lessons taught by our master teachers and the
teacher trainees. In addition, students will enjoy fun activities in student-centered class setting and multi-sensory language environment. Upon completing the program, student participants will receive a 12-hour certificate of Mandarin learning. This is a no cost, non-residential program with no travel support for the student participants. However, free meals (breakfast and lunch) will be provided during 4 half-day.
We are targeting 30 students. Applications are accepted based on date received and availability. If you want to strengthen your Mandarin skills or increase your confidence in speaking Mandarin, this is your chance to grab. All Middle and High School students are welcome to apply. This includes incoming middle and high school students. Deadline for application is April 20. Space is limited. We encourage you to apply TODAY. You can download application form and submit your complete form below.
